Chevron Six Encoded...

Ok, perhaps the fact that I think this is kinda' cool makes me a geek. Oh well, so be it.

Yes, it's a Stargate. A creative group of folks in SL have built these and are giving them away for free to people to setup on the land they own all around SL. When activated they form a gate network that can be used to travel from one place in SL to another. They've put alot of detail into these things, and they work pretty well. I just set one up on a bare plot of my land. Why you may ask?

1) Because I love the workmanship. Both the design skill it took to build and get a realistic look and feel and the skill it took to write all the code that makes it all work and run the network.

2) Because this is a good example of what SL is about. People with all sort of crazy ideas working to see if they can actually build it and make it work. Maybe something similar to what it must have been like when electronics was still purely a hobbyist pursuit.

3) Because with over 14,000 regions in SL now, exploration can be a daunting undertaking. Where do you start, especially with all the island regions now? Well since the SL Stargate network allows for random dialing of other gates, it provides a fun way to explore some of the constantly changing world of SL.

Way cool. Now if I can just find time to code a Tardis.
