Oops....

From a story in the Army Times it appears that a B-52 was transporting a set of Cruise Missiles to be decommissioned but forgot to remove the 5 to 150 kiloton yield nuclear warheads before transport. So the B-52 flew from Minot Air Force Base, N.D., to Barksdale Air Force Base, La. with the warhead tipped ACMs mounted under the bombers wings and apparently nobody knew there were nukes there until I presume some guys on the ground crew got a surprise. So from my (albeit amatuer) understanding of these type ordinance it's not likely there was ever any danger of having the warhead go off even in the event it...uhm...somehow fell off the plane and landed on Anytown USA. BUT, it certainly looks bad when you lose track of these things for ANY period of time.

Good and concise article, click here to read. Also lots of good comment on the "How Did This Happen" discussion link on the page.
