From a recent post on a blog I've started reading. The author, a 42 year old career Army officer on his fourth combat tour in Iraq.
"Dr. Mohammed, my brother in all of my efforts in his area, explained in a memorable way what freedom meant to an Iraqi after living under an authoritarian regime for 35 years.
To an Iraqi, he explained, freedom meant doing whatever he wants without oppression. 'If you steal from me, I will get my gun and kill you, and no one can stop me. That is freedom after living under Saddam.' I was at a loss for words after living in a representative democracy for my entire life."
