The Goings on in Lebanon

Just a few articles of interest re: the dynamics of what's going on in the ME, especially surrounding the situation with the Hezb in Lebanon.

Arab Times Editorial: Says Hezbollah caught in a "quagmire".

Radical Saudi cleric, Sheik Safar al-Hawali, calls Hezbollah "Party of the Devil."

The new joke going around Beirut is "...they're going to play the next World Cup in the Daheyh [the Shiite neighborhood]--the whole thing's been leveled nice and flat."

Al Bawaba article that shows evidence of the sentiment in Lebanon, not too happy with the Hezb.

Lebonese officials critical of Syrian & Iranian interference

There more out there, if you follow some of the online english editions of ME newspapers as well as some blogs of people in the area. All speaking to the reason that I'm not as worried about a more global conflagration. Another week gone by of Israel bombing the crap out of the Hez in S. Lebanon and Beruit (nice Before/After pic here ) and still no uprising of the fabled "Arab Street".

Don't get me wrong, I think the war against the Radical Islamists still has a way to go. I just think we may be about to enter a new phase of the war. A phase where the moderate majority of the area, getting tired of bearing the brunt of the actions of the nutjobs (Al Queda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran, etc) , start realize the nutjobs REALLY don't care about them anymore than they care about us Infidel Minions of the Great Satan(tm). Unfortunately I think it is also a phase where the nutjobs will start trying to tighten their alliances as they see their popular support errode. Unfortunately that means the internal fighting (arab vs arab, arab vs persian, non-arab Islamist vs moderate Islam) is only just beginning.
